Due to negligence on the part of pet owners, approximately 6,000 animals are estimated to be abandoned in Kalamazoo county annually.
Education programs and counseling are available on such topics as responsible pet ownership, pet population control, bite prevention, safety around animals and animal behavior. Presentations are made to community and civic groups, and to elementary students. These educational programs are intended to reach out to children at an early age in order to help them develop into responsible pet owners as adults.
