Animal lovers all over were celebrating the end of a year-long fungicide test being forced upon 36 beagles at Charles River in Mattawan. Corteva Agriscience, the Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, informed the world via social media that the test would be ending, and they would make "every effort" to rehome the animals that were a part of this study.
This begs the question: when will the dogs be adoptable?
Since the end of the test was announced on March 18, 2019, there has been no word yet as to when or how these animals could be adopted. The Humane Society of the United States offerred to bring the dogs into their placement partners for adoption, countless calls, emails and messages are coming to our office from people willing to drive from all over the country to get one or more of these dogs out of the Charles River testing labs in Mattawan, MI.
As of this posting, there hasn't been any activity on the Corteva Agriscience Facebook page since the announcement of the end of the testing and despite near-constant coverage of this issue, it hasn't been enough to register a post of the company's News section of their website at https://www.corteva.us/.
It's unclear what the hold up is for releasing the dogs for adoption. It would be easier to celebrate the end of the test if there were some evidence the testing has actually ended and that the dogs were going to be released. The silence from the company is unsettling, and causes a lot of reason to be doubtful that the dogs are going to be rehomed.
